Frequently Asked Questions

General questions

  1. Should I bring anything with me?

Our studio is fully equipped, and we should have everything you need. Although we provide aprons please wear comfortable clothes that can get a little dirty. We advise having short fingernails for wheelthrowing sessions.

  2. When my pieces will be ready to collect and how much time do I have to collect my items?
In most cases it takes about a month to finish pieces from one-off sessions, beginners classes have different firing schedule, discussed every time individually with participants. Pieces are kept for 6 weeks after notification is sent.

  3. Is there a parking space?
No, although there are paid and free parking spaces within a short walking distance.

Beginners’ classes

  1. What if I can’t attend the class?
Please inform us as soon as possible. Our classes are run at full capacity so there’s no opportunity to swap places. At the end of every round we try to offer catching up session although our schedule doesn’t allow us to accommodate more than one of these classes. Please understand that we cannot accommodate everyone's diary changes and sudden changes in circumstances, but we will make sure you get the best out of your course.

  2. Do I need to pay extra for firing my pieces?
No, the price of course covers all the firings.

  3. Do you provide all materials and tools? Yes. Stoneware clay and decorating materials like underglazes and glazes are provided.

  4. What should I wear?
Something warm and comfortable that can get a little dirty. Our clay doesn’t leave any permanent stains but some of the glazes we use can be difficult to remove from the clothes.

  5. I can’t see any beginners’ course available on the website?
If you can’t find any classes or workshops, then unfortunately we’re fully booked. However, we do release our beginner pottery courses every 8 weeks and our taster pottery classes and pottery wheel throwing weekends 2-3 months in advance. You can join our mailing list for notification of release dates if we’re fully booked.

Open studio classes

  1. I finished beginners’ course in some other studio, can I start studio classes at Mud Station ?
Yes, however the number of slots for this kind of classes is limited to prevent oversubscription. This ensures that our studio members have access to the equipment they need. Please contact us directly to find more about the schedule and availability.

One-off taster and group sessions

  1. What I’ll be making during the session?
These sessions consist of a quick demonstration before you get your hands on the clay. There’s usually enough time to make at least one pot, a cup or a bowl. Wheelthrowing for the first time can be a bit overwhelming so it’s better to keep it simple.

  2. Do I have to book the session?
Yes, all our classes need to be booked in advance. We do not run drop in sessions.

  3. Do you do corporate events or parties?

We’ve hosted many corporate events, team building workshops, birthdays and hen do activities. Get in touch to discuss availability and arrange a date.
